چکیده

Abstract. The deposition of fluvial sediments in tectonically active areas is mainly controlled by tectonics, climate, and associated Earth surface processes; consequently, can provide a valuable record changes regional climate tectonic activity. In this study, we conducted detailed analysis the grain-size distribution modern from upper Min River, eastern Tibet. These data, combined with information on vegetation, hydrology, geomorphology, lithology, fault slip rate, indicate that activity along River be divided into three segments. Specifically, Minjiangyuan–Diexi segment are dominated silts (< 63 µm, 70.2 %), agreeing low runoff, rainfall, high vegetation cover revealing windblown origin influenced arid windy climate. observations consistent hillslope angle relief, all indicating weak Minjiang Fault. coarse-grained fraction (> 250 µm) Diexi–Wenchuan Wenchuan–Dujiangyan segments increases stepwise downstream, although runoff rainfall do not change significantly. patterns correlate well both relief angles. Together, these imply Maoxian–Wenchuan Fault becomes more pervasive downstream River. occurrence well-sorted well-rounded pebbles Dujiangyan must related to long-time scouring sorting rivers. This study marks first development new research approach characterize collected regions.

The Response of Fluvial Systems to Large Flood Events

In the summer of 2001, an intense thunderstorm in southeastern Caspian Sea triggered a catastrophic flood in the Madarsoo basin . Use of methods including high-resolution aerial photographs and satellite images interpretation, multi-date mapping, hydraulic calculations and field observations made possible the documentation of the geomorphic impacts on the Madarsoo River and its tributaries. Geo...

Geologically recent tectonic, volcanic and fluvial activity on the eastern flank of the Olympus Mons volcano, Mars

[1] We show evidence of very recent ( 25–40 Myr) geologic activity on the eastern flank of Olympus Mons volcano that includes a suite of fluvial (channel networks), volcanic (emplacement of lava flows and dikes), and tectonic (wrinkle ridges and troughs) processes. The combination and youth of these features confirms the importance of geological activity continuing to the present on Mars. Citat...

Quantitative assessment of relative tectonic activity in the Alamarvdasht river basin, south of Iran

Tectonic processes are major factors controlling landform development in tectonically active areas. In order to evaluate quantitative measurement of tectonic activities in the Alamarvdasht basin in the south of Iran, six different morphological indices including stream-gradient index (SL), drainage basin asymmetry (Af), hypsometric integral (Hi), valley floor width-valley height ratio (Vf), dra...

Evaluation of the status of heavy metal pollution in surface water and sediments of the Nil River (North Eastern Algeria)

Water and sediment samples were collected from six different stations, located along the Nil River between February and June 2015. Concentrations of cadmium, lead, zinc, and copper were determined. The extent of the sediment pollution was assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely contamination factor (CF), pollution load index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Igeo). The result...
